It’s Time for a $25 Healthcare Minimum Wage

This morning, clinic workers united in SEIU-CCWU joined State Senator Maria Elena Durazo and scores of essential healthcare workers from across California to introduce legislation that would establish the first-in-the-nation statewide minimum wage for healthcare workers. A minimum wage of $25 an hour for healthcare workers in California is critical to addressing the burnout, exhaustion, and shortage of healthcare workers.

As clinic workers, we see every day the massive staffing shortage crisis in healthcare that is hurting workers and patients. And once again, the nation is looking to our state on how workers are organizing for necessary changes.

A $25 minimum wage for healthcare workers like us is an essential step to keeping experienced workers on the job, and encouraging new ones to start on healthcare careers. No matter whether you work for a massive hospital system in a big city or a rural community clinic, $25 will be the minimum wage. No matter if you provide direct patient care or clerical work or maintenance. This landmark bill will ensure that everyone providing essential healthcare services in our state deserves a living wage of $25 an hour.

If the tens of thousands of healthcare workers in California stand together, we can win this victory.

Are you ready to speak out about the need to raise wages for clinic workers? Are you ready to stand up for yourself, your family, your coworkers and the communities that rely on clinics?
